Overview of the Program

Summer Science Institute for Middle School Students at the Timbuktu Academy (SSI-M) is a four-week, non-residential program for rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. (Participants must be entering 6th, 7th, or 8th grade in the fall.) The program aims to enhance participants' participation in middle school and to pursue studies in science, mathematics, and science-related disciplines.

SSI-M is designed stress hands-on, minds-on science and mathematics exploration and the development of cognitive reasoning and test-taking skills.

SSI-M participants will have academic instruction in Mathematics, Science, English (Grammar, Vocabulary and Writing); Computer literacy (primarily data analysis and presentation, and use of the Internet as a tool for data-gathering); and cognitive skill development (reasoning and test-taking skills).

Students will be provided lunch at Mayberry Dining Hall. Some afternoons, participants will take part in recreational activities.
