Seminar began with the introduction of speakers by Session Chairs:

Tommy Dodson and Samara Wadley

Presentations were given by:

Katrina Carter: Measuring the Bunch Length of Electron Beam by Utilizing the Laser Heterodyne Technique.

Katrina Carter's research was conducted at Stanford Linear Accelerated Center;

NeShana Shaw: Intense Neutron Source as an Inertial Electrostatic Confinement Fusion Devise.

Neshana Shaw's research was conducted at Los Alamos National Laboratory and

Ercan Balikci: Microstructure Development in Ni-Base Superalloy

Ercan Balikci is a visiting Doctoral Candidate from LSU who presented research conducted for his dissertation. Mr. Balikci's research was conducted at LSU.

Announcements by Karen Simms

Scholars should be aware of the David and Lucille Packard Scholarship for those pursuing a Masters in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics. This scholarship is part of a 5 year program where $20,000 annually.

Applicants need recommendations from the President, their Department Head, and a Professor. Applicants must also submit a Personal Statement.

Nomination packages are due by Nov. 28, 1997.

Awards are Made in May of 1998 and are contingent upon admission to a graduate school. Scholars must provide information on the graduated school that they have chosen to attend.

AHBAI Scholarship

Grand Prize $5000, 2nd prize $2500, 3rd prize$1000, 4th prize500, 5th prize$250, and a $100 scholarship prize for each student attending the 3rd annual entrepreneurship conference.

Seminars will be held at Moore Hall auditorium October 7, 14, and 21. The subsequent placement of seminars will be announced at a later date.


Announcements by Dr. Diola Bagayoko, Director

Those who have made arrangements for their summer of 1998 assignments need to notify Karen of their intended placement.

William Lester, a Chemist from the University of California, Berkeley, is interviewing perspective graduate students in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics.

Academy Scholar's attendance is mandatory!

Dr. Katie Blandieng from HBCU/MI Programs, Department of the Navy will be interviewing October 22, 1997.

Attendance is mandatory! No excuses will be excepted. Absence from the HBCU/MI Programs event will result in the forfeiture of affiliation with the Academy.

Get written excuses from Karen, Dr. Yang, Dr. Mershams or Dr. Kelly for the above events.
